I have an anxiety disorder and, among other things, my psychiatrist has ordered that i take part in 1/2 hour of laughing per day. :)

It would be a toss up between Lamb by Christopher Moore and Lucky You by Carl Hiaasen. Pax-C

If you get political humor, Catch 22 is great. Also, anything by Chuck Klosterman is hilarious.

Sorry but i don’t know many funny, thats not really my genre. But i can suggest some good old joke books. I know that makes me laugh (even if they are extremely lame) I hope this reduces your anxiety levels.

Any of Janet Evanovich’s books. Especially the ones that have Diesel in them. I usually don’t laugh out loud at much of anything, but if anyone should happen to walk by me when I am reading one of her books they would think I had probably lost my mind the way I would be cackiling away.

There are several. The number one for me is:
The Happy ****** by Robert Newton Peck (No, it’s NOT R-rated) which is the funniest book I have ever read; The Princess Bride by William Goldman (NOT the movie); Bored of the Rings by National Lampoon; and any OLD copies of MAD Magazine, pre-2005.Trust me, I know what I’m talking about.

Catch 22. It is probably a funnier book for men than for women, and probably funnier for men who have served in the military.

I believe your psychiatrist is right.

There is a radio talk show host, Dennis Prager, who has written a book about happiness being a serious business. You might try looking up his work on the internet.

At good bookstores, you can find the old series by Charles Shultz who wrote the text for and drew comics about Charlie Brown. These comics are very human and good for laughs.

    Good luck

OK, it’s a kids book, but it is very funny. It’s called The Dumb Bunnies. The first time I read it, I couldn’t read it out loud to my kids because I was laughing so hard.

By far the funniest book I’ve ever read is “Sellevision” by Augusten Burroughs…its the story of a fictional QVC network – hillarious.

I love anything by Burroughs and also any of the short stories by David Sedaris. My favoirte Sedaris book is ME TALK PRETTY – its a combo of short stories and is an easy read.

I can’t presently think of any books/novels that follow a plot that is laugh-out-loud funny throughout. However, I would possibly recommend that you get your hands on the set of books called “The Darwin Awards.” I had not heard of these until I came across a copy years ago in one of my past teacher’s classrooms, and I found some of the ‘ideas’ or ‘stories’ in them quite humorous. If you remember Darwin, he was the scientist who came up with natural selection/survival of the fittest; Darwin believed that those who were not fit enough would sort of be erased from the gene pool. Well, this series of books called “The Darwin Awards” sort of offers funny solutions to how people would remove themselves from the gene pool, if that makes any sense. Really, you have to read some of them to get the humor.

I wouldn’t necessarily say this is the “funniest book,” but it is a humorous compilation of books that will at least get you to ***** up a few times over. If you are interested, here is a link to a site about this series of books:

    Best wishes!

    Breathing Legends by Anne Tyler

    Lamb by Christopher Moore
A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore

    Discworld series by Terry Pratchett
(It starts with The Colour of Magic)

Discworld is extremely light-hearted humor. Christopher Moore generally takes a little bit of thinking.

American Hoax is really funny, especially if you have a political sense of humour- The World According to Garp is hilarious, erm- Barry Trotter is great (probably have to be a Harry Potter fan to fully appreciate it though)..:)

Try reading Mr. Nonsense. That book is so crazy and funny that you will read it over and over again. It’s about this little yellow thing that dose things that makes no sense at all. And when he is asked why he dose them, his answers are nonsense.

‘The Decline and Fall of Practically Everybody’ by Will Cuppy

‘My Life and Hard Times’ by James Thurber

‘My Family and Other Animals’ by Gerald Durrell
