I know this is old news, but Judy Blume books are great! They are funny and easy to read. Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul is read by many teens for inspiration or confidence that the world is an okay place.

Fantasy: The Pern series by Anne McCaffrey is pretty good, especially is you want to see the development of a culture/civilization.

The Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer is “spell binding,” (most of the main characters are fairies, so it’s more of a pun) a “funny book for teens,” (a. the main character ages from 12 to 17 in the books b. It is HILARIOUS. Mulch Diggums the dwarf is super funny.) and is a “futuristic fantasy book.” (it’s, like, an awesome blend of scifi and fantasy)

A little summary from the words of Quackers:
Artemis Fowl is an (extremely wealthy) Irish criminal mastermind. For generations his family has been known in crime circles – and so has he.
One problem: He’s a twelve-year-old with a missing father and a possibly insane mother.
When Artemis and his bodyguard Butler are on the search for a scheme that could bring in enough cash to help find his father, they come across information about fairies. Not the ones in fairy tales, either; these pixies, dwarves, gnomes, goblins, elves and centuars are 100 times more technology-advanced then “Mud Men.”
And then Artemis and Butler kidnap Captain Holly Short of the Lower Elements Police Recon Squad, also known as the LEPRecon. (Oh, yes, a cliffhanger.)

If you’re between 12 and 18 and like video games and best friends stories I think you might like my novel GAMEPLAYER: The Genesis Portal. It’s available at the normal online sites like amazon, B&N, Borders, etc. and as an ebook on mobipocket.com.
You can check it out further and read the prologue on my site.
    Just a suggestion,
